Question : DHCP Database
|
|
I have a Windows 2000 Domain that is a mess. It consists of 2 DC's an is running DNS, AD, DHCP and WINS. The network has 300 PC's. The domain is in its own forest and its called intersite.domain.com which is awful.
If we create a new domain called domain.com and transfer the users across using the Active Directory Migration Tool, how would I handle the transfer of the DHCP service. For example the current scope is 192.168.1.x I want the same scope on the new domain. Each PC has a IP lease. Whats the best way to transfer it with minimal disruption ?

Migrating the DHCP service from one server to another is easy. See here:

But if you are going to set up a new domain, I would just recreate the DHCP scopes on the server in my new domain (the same scopes that were in the old domain) and start anew. The leases do not matter, when the clients access the DHCP server in the new domain they will obtain IP leases once again from the DHCP server. Just be sure to recreate your reservations and exclusions if you have any. That would be the way I would go.
