Question : wireless problem
|
|
I am so ticked off today.
i was under the impression that wireless b is better than G. Why? because g i thought had better security and the faster transfer only within the network going up to 54Mbps. And the wireless signal strength is best with in 70 feet and does work fine past that too. And b which is 11Mbps but does not has good security and that it does not work too well in terms of distance as oppose to G.
Now today where i work some client comes in who is also very knowledgeble tells me that no it is not true that g works well with distance. he say b is what works good in terms of distance and that it even detects the signal up to 150 to 200 feet.
please explain and distinguish. i don't know what to recommend to people anymore.

I would suggest doing your own reading but in my experience I have found that it depends on the brand of wireless access point.
I had a linksys B wireless router in a clients office which worked great through walls and everything for about 150 feet (approx)
In the same kind of setup, in a different office, I installed a netgear b router which did ALOT less. After about 30 feet and one wall it dropped to almost nothing. We needed to put a high gain antenna to get it to the other room.
Wireless is a touchy thing. There are so many variables that need to be thought of it is rediculous.
1) Brand/Make model technology (b,g, or a)
2) interference: Walls and what they are made of, if you have metal studs forget about it. Also something as simple as a microwave or cordless phone can ruin the signal.
3) Network adapter - If you dont have a good wireless adapter your could also have problems.
Well with that being said would start reading. Good luck and I hope this spread some light on the fact that you are not the only one with wireless problems.
