Question : Gathering Information on Other Networked Computers
|
|
I am a student whose computer is on my college's network.
Just lately, I have noticed large number of 'weird things' like program crashes and all hell breaking loose.
When I go to reboot my computer I get the message that one or more users are connected to my computer and that rebooting will disconnect them. I am then prompted to continue rebooting or stop. If I stop and open Net Watcher I can see the other computer. The computer is not using the hub in my building as I can not see it in Network Neighborhood.
I would like to find out who this person is and confront him/her. If anyone has some advice on how to at least get their IP address or some program that would allow me to gather information on them, please answer.
If you need any more information let me know and I will supply computer stats, versions, etc.

While connected, load a command prompt window and type NETSTAT
Thsi will give you a list of what connections there are to your machine in TCP/IP.
You may also like to turn off file sharing.
