Question : Extending space for Raid 5 Server

I have ProLiant DL380 G3 Server with four hard disk (each 75.gb) configured in Raid 5.This critical Windows application running on this. There are two more hard disk slots in Server.
Shall I add two hard disks (146 gb each) in this empty slots to get more space for server.
If possible how to do this? What are the things that I want check before adding Disks?
I want to get redundancy; so what is best method- creating an array and adding disks to this array or creating another raid (mirror)?
Raid configuration utility not working in this server, so I prefer to start with Smart Start disk.
Waiting for your valuable advice.

Answer : Extending space for Raid 5 Server

tell-me:

i just re-read all of your comments. The first thing i would suggest is to make sure that your RAID card will allow for multiple arrays. some will, and some won't.

assuming your card will allow for another array, i would suggest that you install the two new drives as a RAID1 array. Shniz123 is correct in that if you do not need a RAID0 array, there is no real need for one and it seems that if all you are looking for is extra storage space, a RAID1 array will do everything you need.

if your card does not support multiple arrays, i would suggest that you take SEVERAL full backups (plus a copy of all data to a temporary store if possible) and replace your curreny RAID5 array. You will, however, need to purchase more drives (i would recommend at least two more drives) and run a larger RAID5 array.

Your other option is to get a second RAID card to run your second array. I personally like 3Ware cards.
