Question : Cannot Find Server Or DNS Error on LAN intranet
|
|
I have a small LAN and am having problems with the web servers on 1 computer..
I have a computer with XP Pro SP2 and IIS running. The static LAN address of this PC is 10.0.0.100. When I open the browser on this machine and enter http://10.0.0.100 i get what expecet (the contents of a file called index.html). However if i go to a second PC on the network and type http://10.0.0.100 then I get a "Cannot find server or DNS Error". BUT I can ping the machine first machine from the second PC.
So I investigated further... I also have IIS running on the second machine (Windows 2000 Pro). So, from the first machine I type http://SECONDMACHINENAME/ and hey presto I get the default web page on the second machines server.
As far as I can tell the XP and Widows 2000 IIS servers have exactly the same settings so I dont understand why I can access one server across the LAN but not the other... is this a problem with XP Pro SP2 {Im sure it used to work before I installed SP2 but I may be wrong}...
Any ideas
