Question : DC attached to 2 subnets and only want to register 1 subnet in DNS

I have a Server 2008 domain controller attached to a SAN.  I currently have 2 NIC's in the server.  One attached to the local LAN, and 1 attached to the VLAN used to connect the SAN.  Since the server is a domain controller it is running DNS.  The local LAN subnet is 192.168.16.0/24, and the VLAN for the SAN is 192.168.10.0/24.  The server has made entries in DNS on the Name Server Tab and HOST (A) records for the 192.168.10.0 network and not the other.  I can not contact the server because of these records. All workstations and other servers are on the 192.168.16.0 network.   In the NIC properties I have UNCHECKED the box to update DNS records  for the NIC on the SAN VLAN.  What can I do to change the Name Server and A record IP's for that server to only show the Local LAN IP's.  I have tried to manually remove them, but they keep coming back.  PLEASE HELP!!

Answer : DC attached to 2 subnets and only want to register 1 subnet in DNS

Hey :)

The easiest way to do this is as follows:

1. Open up the DNS Console
2. Right click and open the Properties for the Server
3. Select the Interfaces tab
4. Change it so DNS only listens on the interface for 192.168.16.0/24
5. Manually delete any Host (A) records listed on the other subnet

That's all you have to do, it prevents the other interface registering entirely.
