Question : PXE Bootstrap For Broadcom NICs
|
|
We have a bunch of Dell systems.
They PXE Boot (client) side fine, but I'm hard pressed finding a PXE Bootstrap which supports them.
I tried pxegrub with tg3 support but have no luck.
I just need to give users, on every boot, the option to: Boot Local Save Image Restore Image
Images will be dealt with with Norton Ghost. Most likely i'll be scripted network boot disks to do it all.
IF RIS is the only way to get this working (according to the Dell tech guy) - how can I use RIS, but only make it show the above menu? (freeware :P)

Answer : PXE Bootstrap For Broadcom NICs

The floppy image tool that RIS comes with allows you to create a boot floppy for some non PXE compliant NIC's so that you can then connect to the RIS server and begin the remote installation. There are plenty of third party apps out there that provide additional RIS functionality, but in my hours of searching last night and this morning, I've not found one that lets you use a RIS server as a network boot device.
You may find useful information here for what you said you wanted in your original post.
