Question : Forward port 3389 on a Ellink router

I configured the Remote Desktop feature for a XP machine that is behind a ellink router. I've read that I need to configure Port Forwarding on the router for requests made on port 3389 to the IP of the Remote Desktop machine. Where is that feature located on the Ellink router.

If you don't know Ellink routers. What are the other names given to "Port Forwarding"?

Answer : Forward port 3389 on a Ellink router

Can you access your router from the web browser by typing in it's IP address into the address bar.

Example:

192.168.0.1

If you don't know the address of your Router do:

Start>Run>type cmd

Now type ipconfig /all

Search for where it says 'Default Gateway' and note down the address.

Now type this address into the browser address bar.

Enter in your username and password to access the router interface.

Basically you need to look for an option called something like "Services"  where you can add ports and give that port a name. eg

Port Name:FTP PortType:TCP  Port#:21

But make sure you give the correct port #.

Now find  where your firewall settings are and add a new firewall rule for 'Incoming Services' for the service you've just created.

Now you just need to state the IP address of the Remote connection Machine in the appropriate box and which Internet(WAN) users can access the machine
