Question : Local Area Connection "5" - how to change!

I've just installed XP again - I do it every 6-12 months or so to tidy it up my computer. (I frequently have to test new software and apps)

My LAN connection is listed as "Local Area Connection 5", and not "Local Area Connection"
How can make my computer forget all of the other XP installs i have done and restore my Name to be LAN ?

I do NOT want to rename it! (I have an app that will only function on LAN and not LAN4,LAN5 etc

Uninstall all nics found in device manager and related software. Then shutdown pc. Unplug the power, leave it off for 30 sec. Then boot up again.
