Question : Cisco 7960 to SIP for Broadvoice service

I am completely new to the IP phone world and (in trying to save a buck) may have created a hassle for myself.  I am trying to connect the 7960 to Broadvoice service on my own, but the phone does not have the SIP software pack.  My home network is simple: the phone is plugged directly into the cable modem and the auxillary output from the phone goes to my router.  I have looked at the Cisco documentation regarding switching a phone to SIP, but frankly do not understand most of it.  How do I get the files to the phone?  Can someone "dummy" the process up for me?  Thanks!

Answer : Cisco 7960 to SIP for Broadvoice service

Do you have the files? If so, you need to run a tftp server on your machine, then tell the phone to go to the tftp server and it will automatically download the correct files. Solarwinds has a free tftp server for windows.
Once you get the sip firmware installed, you then need to have configuration files setup. The default.conf is generic for all phones and the sip.conf is for phone specific information. If you don't have the sip firmware, you will need a Cisco login to download it.
