Question : 25-pair T1 Cable

There is currently a 25 pair line running from the demark (I believe this is the correct word, basically the phone companies box) to our office. We want to rerun this line to a different location in the office and run it in a nicer fashion. We will be using the line initially for POTs, but may later upgrade the system. I read once that the best cable to use is a individually shielded twisted pair with 25 pairs, but this runs about $10/ft.

My questions are these:

1. What kind of cable should we use? 25-pair UTP, Cat 5, etc? (please be specific)
2. Where can I obtain the cable?
3. My understanding is that T-1 is 24-pair, but I often read references to it being 2-pair, where is my misunderstanding?
4. Is it correct to refer to the line as a T-1 even if we will be using it only for POTs?

Thanks so much.

Answer : 25-pair T1 Cable

A channelized T1 does have 24 channels, but these are logical channels within the 4 wires...

"best" way is to use patch panels and standard RJ21 telco connectors..

Connected to patch panel like this one:

Telephones use RJ11 4-wire connector, a T1 typically uses a full 8-wire RJ45 connection because it uses pins 1,2,4,5
