Question : MX record question
Hi
I had a query regarding MX records I was hoping someone could help me with.
Let's say my domain is kam.com and my MX records are:
kam.com >
mx1.kam.com [66.9.35.1]
mx2.kam.com [66.9.35.2]
mx3.kam.com [66.9.35.3]
mx4.kam.com [66.9.35.4]
All have Preference 10.
If another SMTP server wishes to send me mail, which of the servers above will they use, given that they all have equal preference? Will it go down the list alphabetically, or how? But if it does go down alphabetically, doesn't this mean that MX1.kam.com will get much more traffic than, say, MX4?
Answer : MX record question
This depends on the name server offering up the IP address. You cannot COUNT on it being in any particular order, or on each IP being given out an equal number of times.
