Question : Connecting Switch to Router

Hello,

Not sure if this question belongs here or in hardware.  I have a 8-port router in which 7 of the ports are being used, 2 network printers and 5 computers.  I want to add more computers, so my questions are:

1.  Can I simple buy a 8 port (or more) switch (less expensive) and plug it into the last remaining slot of the router, then plug computers to the switch and be online?

2. Should I just buy a bigger port router, 16 ports or more?

3.  If I buy a switch and want to add a wireless access point can should I plug it into the router or the switch?

Any suggestions, ideas, advice, is welcome.

Answer : Connecting Switch to Router

You can buy a switch and add it to the router.  This will be no problem at all.  In fact you could buy the switch, plug it into the router and then add all of the computers to the switch instead of the router.  It's really up to you.  If you buy a wireless router, you could again add it to either the switch or the router, but remember to plug into the LAN side port of the wireless router and not the WAN (Internet) side as you would want it to function as a wireless access point and not a router.
