Question : Windows Server 2003 Print Spool Problems
|
|
Over the past weekend, we moved all our print queues (about 30) from a Windows 2000 Professional computer to a Windows 2003 Server. All printers are HP 4000 & HP 5si with internal jet direct. They are shared out with the same names as they were off of 2000. We tested before Monday morning with no problems Once staff came in and "hammered" on printers, the Windows 2003 print spool would stop with the following error in Application Event Viewer: Event 1000 Faulting Application spoolsv.exe Version 5.2.3790.0 faulting module ntdll.dll version 5.2.3790.0 fault address 0x000063xxxx
We can switch back to 2000 workstation print"server" and all is well. If we cut back over to 2003 server, it will run for about 7 minutes and then the spooler service will stop. After restart, it will stop within 10 seconds.
So... anybody else experiencing weird spooler issues lately?

First 4 hits here are worth reading -- especially the first, which involves a registry tweak on the 2003 server to fix the narrow spool problem. Just follow MS directions, don't be afraid to make minor changes to the Reg like this, but doesn't hurt to back it up first anyway ....
