Question : How do  I transfer files between laptop and desktop?

I need to transfer files between a laptop and desktop (A one-off task). Will a simple cable with a USB at each end do ... or do I also some sort of software in addition to the cable ..or even a special data cable?

Thanks,
steve

Answer : How do  I transfer files between laptop and desktop?

1. Use one 'crossover' cable to connect between laptop and desktop
2. Assign the ip for both sides
laptop 192.168.0.1 / 255.255.255.0
desktop 192.168.0.2 / 255.255.255.0
3. Share the folder (e.g. share the laptop 'public' named folder)
4. (On desktop) type "\\192.168.0.1\public" , you can transfer the file now.

I hope it can help
