Question : FTP is open - how to close??

I'm trying to upgrade my Windows XP machine with a service pack 2 download I have. When I run the SP2, after about 4 minutes it says "C:\windows\system32\ftp.exe is open or in use by another application".  How do i close/stop ftp and/or find out which application is running it in the background. Thanks

Answer : FTP is open - how to close??

This problem to most likely be caused by virus or spyware, which caused ftp.exe to be recoded so that access is denied to even the administrator.

Try either taking ownership of the FTP.exe, or trying to rename it.
