Question : Symantec AV 10: Muliple complaints about email scanning taking to long and errors

I don't have a lot of info on this yet, but I have received several calls from different people that their email is taking forever to go out and that Symantec displays the scanning status which takes a long time.  Some have mentioned they get an error.  This is with and without attachments.   Any ideas on what could cause this to happen on multiple workstations?

Answer : Symantec AV 10: Muliple complaints about email scanning taking to long and errors

Could have been an update that screwed it up. We have had that happen before. I know MS just put out a decent package of updates, most for office 2003. Let alone the Live Updates from SYM. Are the workstations set to auto-download?

Here is Norton acknowledging the problem, but not wanting to do anything about it

You can also try to disable the plugin from within outlook.

tools>options>other>advanced options>Add-in manager and uncheck any and all symantec related boxes.

While this should get you back to a functional level, it does not explain what or why. One theory I remember reading about was that norton thinks of all connections as dial-up and tries to "hang up" after the scan is completing, as it thinks the email is sent. Symantec is comfortable with leaving it at "eh, what can you do? and Do you have the latest version?"

In truth, your organization isn't in significantly increased danger for not scanning your outgoing messages, many if not most do not anyway. You are still protected by the auto-protect.

A few resources/signs that we are not alone.
