Question : Wireless LAN

Wireles LAN

I have a Vaio VGN-A317M with Windows XP home edition.
I have a problem with connecting it with my home wireless network.

Some info:
- I have a Belkin_Pre-N_334074 wireless router (IP adres: 192.168.2.1)
- In the Wireless Device Switch window I choose ‘LAN’.
- The wireless switch on the laptop stands ‘on’
- My Vaio recieves a very strong signal
- When i select my home wireless network, it’s not able to make a connection
- I have a Intel Pro/Wireless 2200BG network connection and the propperties window says: it’s working correct.
- When I type in the DOS window ‘ipconfig’, the result is:

Microsoft Windows XP [versie 5.1.2600]
(C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp.

C:\Documents and Settings\Gebruiker>ipconfig

Windows IP-configuratie

Ethernet-adapter LAN-connection:

connectionspec. DNS-achtervoegsel: Belkin
IP-adres. . . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.2.2
Subnetmasker. . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Standaardgateway. . . . . . . . . : 192.168.2.1

Ethernet-adapter Wireless networkconnection:

Media state . . . . . . . . : disconnected

So, I can make a wired connection with my router, but not a wireless. Can someone help me?

Answer : Wireless LAN

you might also check how the wireless access point is configured.

is it set to allow the connection of your Vaio, is it broadcasting its SSID, is it set to get dns infor from someshere, i.e. DHCP, or did you hard code it?

i would temporarily allow access from all devices to your belkin and set its SSID to "TEMP" and set it to broadcast its SSID.

on the VAIO, I would confirm that it can see the SSID TEMP and then try to connect.

then try to ping the belkin, then ping the gateway past, then ping a public ip, i.e., 68.142.226.56, and then ping the name associated with the public ip like www.yahoo.com

if you can ping by ip and not by name then your issue is that DNS is not being propogated to the wireless clients.
