Question : why my long cables wont work

ive must have made 20 patch cables for my house and had no problem but when i tried to make one that was 75 feet long it doesent work
the only way i could get it to work was to split it in half and put a switch in the middle.
and just recently ive tried making a 50 foot cable and the same occures.   i dont want to have to get a switch for every long wire i need.
and as far as the color order, i havent really used a color order, i just know to use the same order for both ends, and thus has worked for me so far, its just when i make a longer cable that the computers cannot see each other.   do the colors have to be specifically in the order ive seen in other solutions, or do they just have to be in the same order as the other end of the plug?

Answer : why my long cables wont work

Always follow the standards - they are there for a reason.  Reference:

Often, the twists will be more frequent in green and orange cables so as to resist signal degradation.
