Question : MSN messenger constantly disconnects
|
|
I work on a small workgroup-based-windows network with a simple linksys router that provides DHCP services and little firewall restrictions. Many in the office use MSN messenger by itself or in conjunction with trillian. The problem is that MSN messenger constantly disconnects and reconnects with no warning. It happens about 5 times per hour. Yahoo messenger seems to have no problems although I have noticed the same problem with AIM.
In trillian's log it just simply says *** Lost connection to server. Err 10054:-1 and then begins to reconnect.
The computers are running windows xp.
Thanks

Answer : MSN messenger constantly disconnects

I solved the problem myself.
It turns out that one of our computer's had a virus and was sending tons of traffic to the router. The router couldn't handle all the traffic and would drop packets. The most noticable effect of the overload was triallian and messaging programs constatnly diconnecting. I cleaned off the virus of the particular computer and the problem cleared up.
Thanks
