Question : Group Policy Screen Saver
|
|
Hi Experts, I have the following problems: My Display / Screen Saver Group Policy is not working on a Member Server and Client. I have no Log Off User profile (go windows start, above shut down) on my Member Server and Client. I can ping back and forth in between to DC, Member Server and Client.
Here is my scenario and what I have applied. I have a test network of the following computers: 1 DC running W 2000 Server and, 1 member running W 2000 Server and 1 client running Windows 2000 Professional. I have intergrated Active Directory and Group Policy. Here is the protocol I applied. Right click User and Computers, select properties, select Default Domain Policy. Go to User Configuration, select Admin templates, select control panel, select display and selected the following: Activate Screen Saver, Screen Saver Executable = %system%\system32\ssstars.scr (manually typed in), Password Protect enabled, Screen Saver time out 900. The screensaver policy work good on my DC, but not on the Member and Client. FYI, I have inlemented a password lock out policy and that is working good.
I am puzzled why this particular group policy and the logg of user profile are not working properly. Hopefully you can give me a solution to my problem.
Thank you, Renate

If you obtain the properties of the default domain policy then click on the security tab, who are you applying the policy to?
Next, remember this: If you are modifying a User Configuration then you must apply the policy to users. If you are modifying a Computer Configuration, then you have to apply the policy to computers. Get it?
Your changes, as you said, are under "user". So you'd have to apply the policy to users.
Also, make sure the policy refreshes. The easiest way to do this is to reboot the PC you're trying to apply the policy to. The other way is to go to the command prompt and type:
SECEDIT /REFRESHPOLICY MACHINE_POLICY /ENFORCE: Immediately imposes group policy object settings located within the "machine" node of relevant group policy objects.
SECEDIT /REFRESHPOLICY USER_POLICY /ENFORCE: Immediate imposes group policy object settings located within the "User" node of the relevant group policy objects.
