Question : Server 2008 nslookup error
|
|
I setup a new server 2008 domain on my network and i am getting a strange error when I do an nslookup from that server. I am able to do an nslookup from other using either the new server 2008 DNS server or an existing one without any issues. The problem is when i do an nslookup from the server 2008 server i get this error. nslookup frgsrv0001 server: unknow Address: ::1
name: frgsrv0001.domain.local address: 192.168.x.x
Everything seems to be working ok... any ideas?
Thanks!

it' s gotta be a PTR record... can you try to create the PTR records manually?
I know we've been over this, but check the DNS server to make sure it has entries for that DC, make sure dynamic update is enabled for both foward and reverse look up zones and that they are AD integrated.
the part that's really weirding me out is Address: ::1 ... Perhaps it's something to do with ipv6, if it's not in use disable it...
In the Network Connections folder, obtain properties on all of your connections and adapters and clear the check box next to the Internet Protocol version 6 (TCP/IPv6) component in the list under This connection uses the following items.
This method disables IPv6 on your LAN interfaces and connections, but does not disable IPv6 on tunnel interfaces or the IPv6 loopback interface. " Add the following registry value (DWORD type) set to 0xFF:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip6\Parameters\DisabledComponents
This method disables IPv6 on all your LAN interfaces, connections, and tunnel interfaces but does not disable the IPv6 loopback interface. You must restart the computer for this registry value to take effect.
Because it's going ::1 for the address, it leads me to believe there's an invalid entry in DNS somewhere, usually Unknown is followed by an actual address...
