Question : Option 161 in Windows 2000 DHCP Server?
|
|
Recently, while trying to update a few thin clients in one of the companies where I work, I realized that I had neither option 161 (FTP Server IP or File Server) nor option 162 (Root path to the FTP files) available under DHCP (Windows 2000 Server). In fact options end with 076 (STDA-Server). I did look at all the options (in case MS uses a different otion numbering scheme) and it wasn´t there. Any ideas? Is this possible at all with Win2K DHCP Server?

Hi, well, I can't say I've come across this problem myself but it intrigued me sufficiently to search for the answer myself.
According to the DHCP help, MS DHCP does support all of the DHCP options defined in the RFC's but it is preconfigured to use only a subset of those, probably because they're the most common ones or because MS networks actually need certain options.
Anyway, you can add your own options from the DHCP Console:
Open DHCP.
In the console tree, click the applicable DHCP server.
On the action Menu, click Set Predefined Options and Values, click Add.
In the Option Type, type the required information to define the new option, and then click OK.
I've tried it and it certainly added the option I tested with, hope this helps.
