Question : Router Blocking UDP?
|
|
I have a 2-computer home LAN connected to a cable modem through an SMC Barricade wireless router (Model 7004AWBR). I want to use a piece of backup software called Dantz Retrospect Pro that will allow me to backup to an 80GB ext. hard drive over the network. To use Retrospect, it is installed on one computer (the backup). On the other computer is installed client software. The backup computer should be able to "see" the client from within the program but it can't. I can ping both ways. When I connect the 2 computers directly with a crossover ethernet cable, I am able to see the client. Apparently, Dantz uses port 497 on the client to accept UDP packets for the registering of the client on the backup. I think my router is blocking these UDP packets. How can I set the router to pass UDP (even though the computers are on the same subnet)? The setup for the router uses terms like 'Virtual Server' and 'Special Applications', but every thing I try does not work. Do you know of any routers (wireless) that will allow UDP to pass? Any ideas? Tim
