Hi,

We have Laptop users who work in the Lan and then imediately get to a place where Wifi is there. Now when they are around that place what will happen. WIll the Wifi router release an ip to the laptop and will the laptop get connected to the Wifi.

Wifi is always enabled.

My main consern is in Xp machines will this be possible

When dissconnected from Lan and connected to Wifi it has to get connected automatically and if out of range then release the leased Ip.

When they are in a place where both Lan and Wifi are there then do not connect to Wifi as the ip will be leased.

Regards
Sharath

IP addresses work on what is called a lease from the DHCP server.  So if your sitting in a LAN (connected with wire) and get 10.0.0.6 then move over to wifi you will get a different IP lets say (10.0.0.9).

If you make these same moves every day chances are you will get the same IP addresses.  This depends on alot of variables:

1) How many people are on the LAN/WIFI connection (or subnet)
2) The size of the subnet and amount of IP addresses
3) The length of the lease times set in DHCP

But yes, WiFi should get connected automatically when in range.  Whether on not they will get he same IP as last time they connected depends on the above information.  Also they will not get he same IP address on the LAN as they do on WiFi as they are two separate interfaces on  the machine.
