Question : Browsing Subnets and Network Neighborhood (windows 2008)

Hello,

I have recently setup a  network that has two different subnets on it
1. 10.0.1.0/24
2. 10.0.2.0/24

I have router CISCO 1812 between subnets and all traffic is allowed.

Windows 2008 standard as DC is in first subnet all clients are in second. The Windows 2008 has DHCP and WINS installed.
All of the computers receive DNS and WINS pointed to 10.0.1.10 (Windows 2008 std).
The workstations received DHCP fine and I can also see the router forwarding traffic on ports 137 and 139.   When I go to network neighborhood on any of the workstations or on the server, I cannot browse client computers from server and I cannot see server from any client. I can get to them via UNC only or by IP.  I can ping nodes across the network fine.

In WINS I can see that the server is Domain Master Browser and one of the workstation from subnet (10.0.2.0/24) is Master Browser.

Answer : Browsing Subnets and Network Neighborhood (windows 2008)

So, you are running the server in one subnet and all clients in the second subnet..    First, 2008, I believe, installs with the Computer Browser Service turned off, so check that..

Regarding using Netbios across subnets?  You need a Domain Master Browser in both subnets..  Might want to quickly read my page on Netbios here:
