Question : I can't connect to the computers behind my router and use remote desktop administration
|
|
Hi, I have a network set up at home where I have a Comcast internet connection, which is connected to my network via an RCA cable modem. That modem is then connected to a D-Link wireless router, at which all the computers in my network are connected.
As you probably already know, my network has one IP address as far as the outside world knows. That is where my problem is. With only one IP address, I can't connect to any one of my computers behind my router and use remote desktop management.
How do I, from a different computer through the net, connect to a specific computer behind my router?
I'm not sure if this will help, but behind my router, my computer's IP address' are all statically set.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
God bless!

You need to setup port forwarding in your D_Link router.
the instruction is something like this : http://www.dlink.com/products/dcs-5300/router-port-forwarding.asp
So basically, just go to port forwarding page and forward the port for remote desktop (3389) to your selected computer ip address.
that's it !
And because you're using cable connection which is using dynamic ip (mostly) you need to register your ip to dynamicDNS service such as www.dyndns.com to get to your computer even if the ip is changed.
gd luck !
