Question : "The Route Addition Failed: 87" error message

We were trying to add a routing table on Microsoft VPN connections to access different subnets and we got the following error message:  "The Route Addition Failed: 87"
What does this mean and how can we fix it?

Answer : "The Route Addition Failed: 87" error message

It means that the gateway that you are trying to add is not on your local subnet, or it is not a router port.
