Question : Dynamic DNS Update failing Active Directory Integrated Zones
Hi All, On my network i have most machines joined to our domain and managed in some way.
There are a few units that are not domain members.
These fail to register themselves at all with DNS let alone in the appropriate zones.
Advanced DNS settings are as follows for all DHCP Servers and scopes:
Enabled DNS Dynamic updates
Always dynamically update a and ptr
Discard a and prt when deleted
Dynamically update a and ptr for dhcp clients that do not request updates all enabled
My DC's run server 2k3, both are dhcp and DNS servers.
When I tell any device ipconfig/registerdns the dhcp log shows that it just renewed the address (type 11) not 30, 31 or 32 like I would expect.
We are shutting off WINS asap but I need non domain machines to properly participate in DNS first. On my test client I have disabled netbios over tcpip/wins.
I know I will need to provide more information but i am at a loss!!
Help please, This is making less sense as I get further into it.
Answer : Dynamic DNS Update failing Active Directory Integrated Zones
Hi.
For non-domain members, you must check the box on the client "use this machines DNS suffix in domain registration." Make sure to add your domain suffix (mydomain.com) to the box. After that is done, they will update dynamically.
