Question : Connecting 2 Switches together and using a 20 meters CAT5 cable?
|
|
Hi
I connected tow switches together via the normal lenght 1 Meter long vcable and they worked fine because when I connected the laptop to the other switch the laptop could access the network.
then the manager wanted that laptop to be used in the next room and there are no network sockets in that room so the quickest solution was to connect the second switch to the main swtich and then connect the laptop ti the second switch with a 20 meters long cat5 cable and no network connection happend now if i connect this 20 meters cable to the first/main switch the connection is fine
any suggestions?

Make sure your cable is in good condition - no kinks - and that all of the wires are properly terminated in the ends.
Wiggle the ends a bit after plugging them into the switch and the laptop, to see if you get a link light.
Also, some switches and most hubs require a crossover cable for downlink. Newer, better ones autosense crossover and do it for you.
