Question : Wireless laptop connection will not browse internet
|
|
Sony Vaio laptop with netgear WG511 wireless card can find netgear DG834G wireless router fine, but will not connect to internet. Connect laptop to router with lan cable and all is perfect, as soon as insert the wireless card the Internet connection icon disappears from 'view network connections' and whatever I try, cannot see the internet through the wireless card. Connection to the router is fine, good signal. Ideas?

Can you ping the router IP address? Ensure that the MAC address of your VAIO wireless is in the wireless router if you enable MAC address filtering.
Can you ping any internet IP from the VAIO? Example ping 66.249.89.104.
Can you ping www.google.com?
having Good signal does not mean you are connected to the router, make sure your SSID, WEP or WAP is set up correctly in your VAIO wifi card. It must be the same as what you set in the wireless router.
Can you go into the netgear wireless router using the Internet Explorer and double check the above?
cheers, nowonderla
