Question : How to synchronize e-Dir and AD passwords?

We are implementing a solution for our client which includes password synchronization between e-Dir and AD:
Server1:
Windows 2003 server with e-dir, Identity vault, AD driver
Server2:
Windows 2003 domain controller with remote loader.
Both servers are on same sub-net.

We are having trouble synchronizing passwords between two eDir and AD. I believe this is because we are not using secure communication SSL between two servers.
The documentation is bit wage one of the document says that we must use secure communication (SSL) between two servers. When tried SSL as per document I’m getting error message in the AD controller that SSL is wrong version.

Without SSL communication all works fine e.g. users created in AD are created automatically in the e-Dir as well.

Password sync is basic block of our solution. Hope this info is enough, I’ve not done this before so let me know if you require more info.

We are also happy if we can get password sync work some how without SSL.

So question is can get this going without SSL or how to get rid of the SSL error.
