Question : DNS Reverse lookup zone multible PTR records

I am running Windows 2003 server with all the most recent patches applied (as of Aug 2006)

We are currently hosting our own DNS server for Active Directory DDHCP only.

If I ping an addres I get the right IP back:
ie: ping mehere ---> reply 10.201.0.100

If I ping -a 10.201.0.100 I get ---> youthere

If I look at the reverve look zone I have 4 different entries for 10.201.0.100 "youthere.domain.local", "youthere.", "[email protected]" and one "mehere."

youthere is an old computer name that has not been on our network for several months.

In the DNS event viewer I see the following error several times:

Event Type:         Error
Event Source:      DNS
Event Category    None
Event ID:             4011
Date:                  8/21/2006
Time:                 10:04:54 PM
User:                  N/A
Computer:           server2

Description:

The DNS server was unable to add or write an update of domain name gc in zone domain.local to the Active Directory.  Check that the Active Directory is functioning properly and add or update this domain name using the DNS console. The extended error debug information (which may be empty) is "". The event data contains the error.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Answer : DNS Reverse lookup zone multible PTR records

i would delete all entries from the RLZ to start with so that it is clear, flush DNS (ipconfig /flushdns) then enable scavenging as mentioned above
