Question : IP address of my WAP
|
|
I am having intemittent problems connecting to my home wireless network and I suspect the WAP may be the culprit. My problem is that I cannot get to the WAP's home page. I have tried pinging what I thought was the IP address of the WAP and also what I'm told are standard WAP IPs (192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.254) but with no luck.
Should the WAP's MAC address be listed on the router's DHCP server as I had hoped to find out the WAP's IP address that way (but had no luck).
Is there a winnt command or other trick I can use to access the WAP's home page or otherwise find out its IP address?
If it helps, I am using a Linksys WAP11, version 2.2 and am running XP with SP1 on the machines having the periodic difficulty. I can get out to Internet through the WAP periodically so I assume the WAP must be connecting properly to the router.
Thanks.

Hello,
The linksys WAP11 has default ip address of 192.168.1.251
to connect to the device web configuration, you must have an address on your PC on the same network (i.e. 192.168.1.x, mask 255.255.255.0). If you don't have an address like that, then you will not be able to access it with a browser.
you can also config the thing with a setup tool - download it from linksys:
http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?childpagename=US%2FLayout&packedargs=page%3D2%26cid%3D1115416835852%26c%3DL_Content_C1&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper&SubmittedElement=Linksys%2FFormSubmit%2FProductDownloadSearch&sp_prodsku=1121194967244
(or just go to www.linksys.com, select support->downloads, select wap11 from the list, download the 'driver'
The wap11 is an access point bridge device, so if you have a DHCP server on the network, then you will want to disable any dhcp server on the linksys and assign any ip address that you want - ideally one that is NOT in the DHCP scope, or make it server assigned.
Cheers.
