Question : Piggy Back Routers

I have a Linksys 4 port router and I want to piggy back my Netgear 4 port router.  I have connected the two via a rj45 cable.

The computer on the newly piggy backed Netgear router has internet connectivity, but I can no longer see my other networked computers, nor can they see this netgear connected computer.  FYI, this computer networked just fine before I moved it to the piggy backed router.

Do I need to configure settings in the Netgear?

I don't know if it matters, but he starting IP on the Linksys is 192.168.1.100

This is not my thing, so please be specific in your answers.  Thanks in advance.

Answer : Piggy Back Routers

Ok, so let's see here. First, this is a tried and true method. I have my Netopia Wireless router piggy-backed to my LinkSys RV042 and it works a treat. So we need to troubleshoot.

1. Did you for sure set the static WAN address of the Netgear to 192.168.1.10? (do not try to connect automatically).
2. Open the configuration of your LinkSys router. It should be a DHCP server. The DHCP addressing should be set for (something like) 192.168.1.100 to 192.168.1.199. The gateway (router address of this LinkSys should be 192.168.1.1. Any PC you connect to it should have an IP address of 192.168.1.101 (or 100, or 102, or, ...)
3. Make sure neither router is trying to do DMZ (at least while troubleshooting).
4. Make sure you or LinkSys did not set up some kind of automatic firewall on the LinkSys router.

Now:  Connect your PC to the Netgear router. What IP address does it get (exactly). Open an command prompt and type ipconfig and enter.

Let us know and we shall go from there. ... Thinkpads_User
