Question : SBC DSL and Linksys router problem

I am a networking novice.  We have sbc dsl service connected through a speedstream modem to my desktop. I wanted to set up wireless at my home for our laptops (we have two) and purchsed a linksys WRT54g router.  Went through the setup process and everything worked for about a week, then the connection went down.  I by-passed the router back to the modem on desktop only and the connection came back.

I have been hassling this problem for weeks now, both SBC and Linksys have not been much help.  Can you provide
clear help on how to fix the problem...again I am very novice on all the technical side...

Thanks

Answer : SBC DSL and Linksys router problem

Hello,
I know all about sbc dsl.
I would assume 4100 with a total of 5 lights?
One would be internet light.

If you do have the 4100 is your internet light on green?
If it is then you can open IE and type http:192.168.0.1 in the address bar.
go to advanced tab on the left.
Go to the 2nd or 3rd option I think it is labelled ppp location.
Then check the option for bridge mode should be the 2nd option.
if you do not know the ip to access the router go to start, run, type cmd hit ok
in dos type ipcongig/all and the ip address of the router would be the default gateway listed
Login to the router GUI put your username password if you did not change the defaults it would most likely be blank username and admin for password.

then you will need to setup the router for pppoe should be a drop down for the type of service on the first page you access. After selecting pppoe it should have a spot to type a username and password. Put ypur full email address for username and the password associated with your email save changes. Then click on the status tab most likely at the top of the page if you put in the correct uid password then you should see an ip address of like 67.xxx.xxx.xxx or something similar.

Also anytime you use the reset button on the modem you will need to go back and put it in bridge mode again.

Hope this helps
