Question : Network trouble

Even though I have two desktop computers connected to my LinkSys WMP300N router, only the main computer is recognized.  The other one says it's connected (via cable) and the router says it's connected.  Nevertheless, there is no internet access.  In fact, pinging the router from the other computer returns "Destination host unreachable."  IPconfig returns no information.  Both computers run WinXP SP3.  The network had worked until this a.m., even with a wireless connection.  When that didn't work this morning, I tried the cable connection to no avail.  How can the cable appear to function normally, yet not show any sign of a network connection in the applications or by pinging?

Answer : Network trouble

If IPCONFIG doesn't return information, I would:

Confirm that the system sees the network card (My Computer / Properties / Device manager)

scan for viruses & malware

hard code a working address, net mask and gateway, see if that helps.

use Google on the working computer to find instructions for using NETSH to repair the TCP stack
