Question : E-Directory Update...

Hi Techies

Just some advices required..

I am wanting to upgrade groupwise 5.5.5 to Groupwise 7.
The requirements are e-director 8.7 or above.
The server that is running groupwise is running 8.6.2.

I have recently added a new NW OES 6.5 SP5 server to the tree which has 8.7.3.7.
How do I go about updating e-directory on netware 6 SP5 servers.
I have two @ HQ and two in the USA.
E-directory looks healthy.

Thanks..

Answer : E-Directory Update...

First, you want to make your new OES server the Master of [Root] if you haven't already.

Second, since you have an eDirectory 8.7.3x server in the tree already, I hope you have updated NICI on all the servers already.  One of the prerequisites is to have NICI 2.4.2 or later installed on all of the servers.  I don't know if NW60SP5 had NICI 2.4.2 or later.  There's a beta of NICI 2.6-something on filefinder...

Third, you want to download & burn the full eDirectory 8.7.3 ISO image (it's got IR3 included, so you'll have to also download the 8.7.3.7 IR patch.) unless GW7 comes with a full eDirectory 8.7.3 install for NetWare, that is.  You install it like "normal" using nwconfig.  You have to use a full install to upgrade, you can't do it from an IR patch release.

Fourth, after installing eDir 8.7.3, you want to update the NMAS server & client software on the server, to keep it in sync.  Prior to 8.7.2 it was a separate product, but now it's part of eDirectory.

Fifth, you want to apply the 8.7.3.7 IR patch.

You may want to consider upgrading your iManager to 2.02 (the last available for NW6.0) too, unless you do all of your eDirectory maintenance from C1 1.3.6E or whatever comes with GW7, plus the iManager that's on the OES server.
