Question : Switch to Wi-Fi connection (wireless) from LAN connection (wired)

I'm on a desktop (Windows XP) with both a wired and wireless internet connection. I'm trying to connect to the internet using the wireless connection. I set the interface metric of the wireless IP to 10 and the wired IP to 20, figuring XP would default to the lower metric. But it seems like the internet connection is still going through the wired connection. All devices/drivers seem in tact. And I have already verified that the wireless network is working properly because I am able to connect wirelessly through my laptop which I have right next to my desktop. Am I missing some kind of conflict that's preventing me from connecting wirelessly on my desktop? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Answer : Switch to Wi-Fi connection (wireless) from LAN connection (wired)

Metrics do not work as expected with Windows.
I would first resolve why the wireless connection doesn't work when the wired connection is disabled. Try disabling and then look at the output from    IPConfig /all    this may indicate a gateway or DNS problem. If you suspect DNS see if you can connect to Google using the IP  http://66.249.80.104

If you wish to be able to better manage your connections, once working, you might want to consider a 3rd party utility like:
