Question : Sendmail - mail taking a long time to be delivered
|
|
I have a couple of servers running Sendmail on Red Hat linux. I am seeing mail taking several seconds to be delivered, but other servers that I have send out the mail straight away.
For example, I generated mail from a mailbox on one of the servers that is running slowly, details below.
Aug 11 20:21:30 mail-02 sendmail[1040]: n7BALP2v001040: [email protected]mp.com, size=398, class=0, nrcpts=1, msgid=<1249986085.1037@mail-02.mycomp.com>, relay=root@localhost Aug 11 20:21:55 mail-02 sendmail[1040]: n7BALP2v001040: [email protected], [email protected]ycomp.com (500/500), delay=00:00:30, xdelay=00:00:25, mailer=relay, pri=30398, relay=[127.0.0.1] [127.0.0.1], dsn=2.0.0, stat=Sent (n7BALUMk001059 Message accepted for delivery)
There is a gap of 25 seconds between the entry for "From" and the entry for "To" for this mail.
This example shows the same process on a different Sendmail server without the delay issue.
Aug 11 11:20:15 ldc-mail-01 sendmail[24047]: n7BAKFZa024047: from=sendmail@ldc-mail-01.ldc.mycomp.co.uk, size=409, class=0, nrcpts=1, msgid=<1249986015.24045@ldc-mail-01.ldc.mycomp.co.uk>, relay=root@localhost Aug 11 11:20:15 ldc-mail-01 sendmail[24047]: n7BAKFZa024047: [email protected], ctladdr=sendmail@ldc-mail-01.ldc.mycomp.co.uk (500/500), delay=00:00:00, xdelay=00:00:00, mailer=relay, pri=30409, relay=[127.0.0.1] [127.0.0.1], dsn=2.0.0, stat=Sent (n7BAKFM5024048 Message accepted for delivery)
In this case the "From" and "To" lines both appear in the log with the same time, and mail sent from this server experiences no delay.
Can anyone suggest what may be causing the delay ? Please let me know if you need any additional information.
TIA.
