Question : Bandwidth control + P2P control
|
|
I use Iptables as a NAT for my lan to connect to the internet (1.5Mbit/128Kbit ADSL)
1. Is there anyway to control the bandwidth for every service. like I want to give 256Kbit to HTTP and 512Kbit to FTP and so on....
2. How can I block/limit the speed to P2P software (mainly Kazaa Lite and Edonkey). I am interested in blocking outgoing traffic (uploading to other users) and to control the max speed of d/l.

Sounds like you will need to look into some sort of packet shaper, like a Packeteer. I am not to sure how much $$ you are willing to spend, because then can get a bit expensive. Also not sure how big your set up is. I work on a network that has about 20000 computers of all sorts, we use few Packeteer Packet Shapers to get the job done. You can limit, block, dedicate, and put timers on bandwidth.
Happy Computing Laurence...
