Question : Configure Cisco 7941 IPP Phone

Hello,

I am new to Cisco phones within the last week and im trying to learn fast. I am trying to set up a Cisco 7941 phone. I have successfully flashed the phone with the latest SIP software which I believe is (8-0-2SR1). The phone switches on and says 'Unprovisioned' and im not sure what to do next to be honest. I obviously would like to configure the phone however this does not seem possible through the phones GUI interface - is this only achievable through configuration files and loading these to the phone from the tftp server?

At the same time I have been flashing a 7940 phone - they seem very different, however with this one I had a configuration file which was loaded in the phone when it was flashed and worked fine.

Could I ask firstly what it means when the phone says Unprovisioned? and how to can load the config file to the phone now and why I cannot enter the relevant information through the GUI ?

Thanks in advance !..

Answer : Configure Cisco 7941 IPP Phone

Unprovisioned means it is not assigned to any phone system.  The phone has to be provisioned in the pbx so the phone can register.  So even though it may have an ip address, and all the settings entered on the phone - it needs to register to the PBX.  So there is some configuration that will need to be performed on the PBX side.
