Question : Weekend evening abends and odd messages in Health.Log
|
|
This may be two unrelated issues.
We're experiencing a problem where our primary file server abends on weekends. It seems to happen only on weekends, and usually in the middle of the night.
The abends we are getting are not recorded in the abend.log, they dump to the screen, and the server locks up solid.
The screen says something along the lines of this: (Message copied from the screen by hand, so it may not be exactly correct.) Multiple Abends on Processor 0 EAX 00000030 ECX 2c602424 ESI 00134223 ESP bf6dc600 EIP 001130b2 EBX 2c6f9374 EDX 00000031 EDI 000000a EBP afdb42d6

LOADER.NLM, DS.NLM, and CONNMGR.NLM messages)
Server is Netware 6.5 SBS with all current service packs. Post SP5 patches for FTP and TSA5up have been applied.
While investigating these abends, I noticed something else, which may be unrelated. In the HEALTH.LOG file, I am seeing messages about licensing being in a SUSPECT state every evening between midnight and 1 am. That seems strange, since we're a 9-to-5 operation, and very few people are using the network at that time. Obviously something is happening around then, as there's also entries for high CPU utilization around the same time. I do run a nightly backup job, but that starts at 7pm, and is usually finished up before then.
I still suspect some connection between the backup (Backup Exec 9.0) and these problems, as I've gone around with BE and weird abends in the past, but without a useable ABEND.LOG file, I'm having problems getting anything I can use to identify the cause.
Any suggestions?

WaitForSpinLock issue ,eh? Ya got a process that is hanging the CPU for more than a minute. Is this a multprocessor machine?
