Question : IP Telephone solution
|
|
Hello everybody, I'm not sure if this is exactly a network question, but here goes.
I need to find a way to be able to install "telephones" at diferent locations directly connected to a network. The easiest would be to be able to conect them directly to an existing network (telephones with rj45 conector). These phones should be able to dial a destination ip and connect to it through the existing isp service (adsl, cable...)
I'm quite sure Cisco offers something like this. And if this is the case, I'd love to know what are the phone models and how this is implemented. Also, if not Cisco, what other company offers phones with this technology.
Thanks!

Hi Tiensa
There are an increasing number if IP-telephone systems available. Cisco is a very big player in this area, and has sold over 3m IP phones globally.
They do a range of IP phones - the 7900 series (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/phones/ps379/index.html) which might be suited to your needs. The Cisco CallManager software product can be used to manage all of the phones on the network.
You might also want to take a look at D-Link - www.d-link.com - they have a range of IP telephones available to.
Alternatively, If you have PCs at the locations, I suggest that you look at VoIP software like Skype http://www.skype.com or PalTalk http://www.paltalk.com I know that you can plug a USB telephone (about US$50) into the PC, and use the phone to make and receive calls.
Hopefully this should point you in the right direction. Let me know if I can be of further help.
Steve
