Question : DHCP Scope

HI;
I have DELL server 2950 with two NICs, now i would like to create two DHCP scopes which will offcourse have different subnets. Is it possible that each scope is be linked to different NIC, since these two NICs will be connected to two different switches and netting will be done by the router. I know if i keep on more DHCP separate server in such case there will be no issue, but i want to use the existing DHCP server to save some money.
Thanks

Answer : DHCP Scope

All DHCP clients initilaize to the IP address (0.0.0.0) at start-up and pass this address as part of the DHCP request message.

The DHCP server uses the local scope (scope 1 subnet 1 assuming that subnet 1 is the local subnet for example) to to serve these types of requests.

When the client is a subnet 2 client then its request must pass through a BOOTTP compliant router (RFC 1542 compliant).

The BOOTTP compliant router changes the initial IP address of 0.0.0.0 to its inport address (The address of the router's leg on the same subnet as the client). The DHCP server knows from this address that it should use IP addresses from (scope 1 subnet 2 assuming that subnet 2 is the remote subnet) to serve this request.

Have a read through, what routers do you have ? they should allow you to assign a dhcp helper or a dhcp relay address
