Question : Port 80 seems to be blocked
I have a vert strange problem and I am hoping somebody can shed some light. Here is the situation:
1) I can no longer use IE or FireFox to view any URL that uses the
http
: . Right now I am using an old machine (on the same router, BTW) that I still have - not the laptop where the problem is.
2) I can ping sites such as
www.google.com
,
www.yahoo.com
, etc. by name, so DNS seems OK
3) I can use IE and FireFox to view URLs that use FTP, e,g, such as
ftp://releases.mozilla.org
.
4) I can also access sites uisng
HTTPS
:, so the SSL port is OK.
5) All this started about 24 hours ago when I was surfing 'strange and wondorous videos' from gosh knows where - fairly ordinary stuff. Yep, the last site wanted to install some type of software, a viewer i think, and I think I clicked to appropriate 'no don't you dare' button, but...
6) Get
HTTP
: error 12029 when run the diagnostics offered via IE; they confirm that i cannot connect to
http
: , but can to
FTP://
and
HTTPS://
.
7) I have tried disabling the Windows Firewall - no luck.
8) I have been looking over the list of 'processes' looking for something fishy running, but have not yet found anything - NOT that I woud necessarily have noticed it.
9. I have another machine on the same router and it is fine, so I don't think the router is blocking port 80
I'm out of ideas. Help??
Answer : Port 80 seems to be blocked
Perhaps a router reset is in order if the above proves true??
