Hi Jameslee1977,
You don't have to connect to the old server to seize the schema master role (well, it is Microsoft World, so I guess I should say you *shouldn't* have to).
Warning: When studying for one of my MS tests, I remember being told that you should NEVER bring a server back online after you seized one of the roles - I think this includes the schema role.
To do this, go to the new domain controller, login as administrator, load NTDSUTIL and follow these:
roles connections connect to domain mydomain.com quit seize schema master quit quit
You should be prompted to confirm and then the server your on should be the new schema master.
Chris.
