Question : Win98 & XPPro in workgroup - drive won't stay mapped

Hi there I have a Windows 98 workstation that runs an Access database. I wrote a little Windows script that copies (backs up) the database, over the network, to a Windows 2000 Server AND to a Windows XP Pro computer.
The script runs on the receiving computers (i.e. the Win2K and WinXP ones). On the receiving machines, I mapped a drive "M:" to the Windows 98 workstation, and copy the Access database to the local hard disk. The password on the 98 computer is DIFFERENT than on the 2K/XP's, so when I mapped the drive, I clicked on "connect as a different user" and entered the user/pass for the Win98. It connects OK.
On the Windows 2000 Server machine, everything works great. When I log in, I use my regular user/pass combination. Then it tries to map M: and comes up with an error "incorrect password or unknown username for \\SERVER\SHARE" and I then enter the correct password, and the computer then boots up to the desktop... the backup runs as scheduled.
However --- on the Windows XP machine, when you boot up/log in, there is NO message to log in to the M drive. In fact, everything looks fine until the backup fails with an "Access denied" message, when I realise that the M drive is not really mapped. When I double click on the M: icon, THEN I get the "incorrect password" error.
I mapped the drive the same way on both the 2000 Server and XP Pro machines, and they are running the same script.
Is there any way of getting the share to map on boot up/logon automatically on Windows XP? I clicked "reconnect at logon" and "connect as another user" when I mapped the drive. If my users forget to double click on the M drive in the morning, the backups fail.
Thanks
