Question : Do i need a L3 device in my LAN to enable a Cisco 1130AG WAP to talk to the Cisco 2125 WLC?

My layer 2 core switch connects directly to my ASA5505 on 4 ports each with its own affiliated VLAN. THe outside interface on the router is connected directly to a WAN modem, therfore there is no router used in the network as none of the devices in the VLANs need to talk to devices in any of the other VLANS.
I currently have a Cisco 2125 WLC  and aCIsco Aironet 113A0G WAP connected to the core switch for testing, but I'm unable to make the AP and WLC discover each other properly. Currently the AP can obtain an IP address from the internsl DHCP server configured on the management interface of the WLC, but the AP is not recognised as an AP by the WLC.
What is happening? Do i need a router on a stick for these devices to communicate using LWAPP

It turns out that the  Cisco 1130AG WAP were set to autonomous (standalone) mode, therefore we needed to upgrade the access points to LWAP mode in order for them to communicate with the WLC correctly. The upgrade was performed using the Cisco upgrade tool.
