Question : Setup of Windows 2003 server
Hi,
I am setting up a windows 2003 server.
I am following the step by step procedure indicated in MS kb. The domain and DNS are ok. I gave the server a static ip address 192.168.1.250.
The server can ping EVERY pc in the network, but no machine can ping the server!
Where is my mistake?
Thanks a lot!
Luca
Answer : Setup of Windows 2003 server
Write here the caption of what ipconfig /all responds on one station. If the station are configured by dhcp I think is a dhcp config problem, if are configured with static addressez or automatic there can be a problem. Anyway, the workstation must have addresses in the 192.168.1.x network, the netmask must be 255.255.255.0 and the gateway must be the ip of the nic that is connected to the network, not the one connected to the router. The server can ping the stations because its netmask and default gateway are correct, but the stations cannot ping the server because they have no access to it. It's a commonly mistake when configuring a network. I hope you can understand what I've written. I don't understand why your server has two nics when a router is available, as the two nics are in the same network, maybe you can make an ascii art photo of the network.
But if you want more help the answer from ipconfig/all will give us a lot of information.
